Development and production of NOVAR power factor controllers is one of company's most important activities. In the following overview the devices for fully automated and optimal compensation of reactive power are presented. Portfolio includes classic power factor controllers operation with electromechanical contactors as well as components for fast compensation systems - fast power factor controller and thyristor switching blocks.

panel 96 x 96 mm - 20 mA current sensitivity - 5+1 or 7+1 relay - temperature sensor - fan/heater control

NOVAR 1007

DIN rail mountable - 20 mA current sensitivity - 5+1 or 7+1 relay - temperature sensor - fan/heater control

NOVAR 1007

panel 144x144 mm - 2 mA current sensitivity - 6 or 14 relays + alarm relay - temperature sensor - cooler/heater control - optional communication RS-485 or Ethernet

fast controller - up to 25 interventions per second - 144x144 mm - min. sensitivity 2 mA - 12 trans. + 2 relay + alarm output - thyristor/contactor mixed systems - temperature measuring, cooler control - RS-485 or Ethernet

Thyristor switching (SSR) modules KATKA are designed for fast and fluent switching of compensation capacitors

KATKA 20/80

three phase controller - evaluates ower factor in all phases - panel 144x144 mm - 2 mA sensitivity - 6 or 14 relays + alarm - temperature control - optional communication (serial, Ethernet)

NOVAR 26xx (the “xx” means optional definition for number of controllable outputs) is a first model of the innovated APFC line. these controllers are based on precise and powerful three-phase measurement and evaluating core. The instrument also implements optional multifunctional panel meter and power quality analyzer with power factor control functionality in single box. The built-in meter can be optionally equipped with memory for datalogging of measured quantities, various events, etc. Thus the instruments can be used for long time network data recording and PFC controll. For on-line monitoring, the controllers can be provided with remote communication interface.

Control Principles

  • governor’s speed of response independently programmable for conditions of under-compensation and over-compensation
  • the preset speed of response increases in proportion to instantaneous control deviation, that is either with the value squared or in direct proportion to the ratio of the control deviation to the smallest capacitor section value (C/k)
  • adjustable control range to reduce the number of control interventions in systems with a wide control range at high loads
  • mains decompensation
  • any control section can be set as fixed, that is as constantly connected or constantly disconnected
  • Automatic Connection Detection
  • any combination of measuring voltage and current
  • automatic detection of connection and compensation systems’ nominal voltage on governor setup
  • Automatic Control Section Recognition

  • on startup the governor automatically recognizes the power ratings in each section
  • it is possible to connect any combination of the control sections (no limitation on the type and rating of the reactor or capacitor)
  • specifying section values, disabling faulty sections
  • continuous specification of section value recognized in the control process
  • continuous checking of the state of all control sections in the control process
  • in case a section failure is repeatedly detected, the faulty section is disabled and alarm is actuated.
  • temporarily disabled sections are periodically checked every five days
  • positive section test result (for example when section’s burnt fuse is replaced) enables the step again
  • Programmable Alarms

  • independent alarm warnings and actuation functions
  • alarm can go off with undercurrent, overcurrent, voltage failure, undervoltage, overvoltage, THDI limit exceeded, THDU limit exceeded, CHL limit exceeded, out of power factor preset range, active power export, limit in number of section switching exceeded
  • section breakdown and temperature limit exceeded.
